oil filter leaking

My m37 oil filter leaks when first starting after changing the oil for the first time. I changed the element,wiped the the sludge in the bottom of the can and cleared the supply lines with air. after installing the element I filled this can with oil and replaced seal and cap. The garage floor looks bad !
