..was because when the economy was really booming diesel was under more supply pressure. Shippers use diesel for trucks, ships, trains and a direvative as jetfuel. Now that the summer boom has ended and the economy is slowing down slightly, the few percentage point drop in activity translates to millions of gallons of unused diesel that needs to be moved out of the supply chain, you do that by dropping the price.
I would also attribute put some of the credit on the fast repair of the Alaskan pipeline.
