I've always wondered why the people who believe in "peak oil" and other nonesense are always pointing to the inevitability of $300 per barrel oil when diesel from coal using the Fischer-Tropsch method (which Germany did during WWII and South Africa presently does)can be done profitabily for aroung $100 per barrel currently and near $75 per barrel if done on the scale of existing refining capacity.
