Thanks everyone for the good suggestions.
Electrolysis sounds like a great idea I hadn't thought of.
I'm off to get a big clean trash can and set that up.
I understand the principle of get down to clean metal, but that would mean taking a lot of material off in places. Since this thing is structurally strong enough, I'd like to dream “Paint-Over-Rust” works. That is a dream, isn't it?
The holes are not structural problems – barely go through, but if I start going for clean metal in those areas the holes will get bigger. I've got a MIG, but I need a lot more practice before I go at the WS frame with it. Brassing would mean getting to clean metal – making the holes bigger. JB-Weld is simple, fills the holes, and has no risk of making things worse.
I'm new to thing hobby. Hadn't held a torch for 15 years until I dragged this 52 FFPW home last fall. Maybe in five years I'll come back and redo it right. Right now I can provide a lot of entertainment to anyone watching me with a torch in my hand. And do a lot of damage. Getting glass in the truck so I might occasionally leave it outside is a priority.
I'll try the electrolysis, paint the outside, put oil-wax on the inside.
Thanks for all the good ideas.
