Is a Route Van. All Route Vans, 1948-55 had the semi independent rear axle.
All the literature about the stubby postal vans and real life Stubby postal vans I have seen show them to be solid rear axled.
If you saw one in person it should have been obvious that the stubby postal vans have a centered engine, and the drivetrain layout is not set up for a offset engine like the Route Vans.
You would need a Route Van Chassis, and those chassis are much wider, and heavier then the little 90" WB stubby mail van chassis.
Next time I find one of these little vans I will take some detail pictures for you so you can see what I am talking about.
