Like MoPar Norm always says, "It's A Mystery". I don't know how or why it works. With my Durango, after the break in period, I went to all synthetics. Everything was great until Dodge messed with the tranny. I used to get 18+ MPG until they "FIXED" it. Now I'm lucky if I get 11, usually 8.5, but that's another story.
With axles, if ya redo em & install new, modern seals/gaskets I'd go symthetic. Personally, I like my stuff dry underneath, although oil & grease coatings do prevent rust. HA!
At best, Slick 50 is a temporary soultion that may mask the actual problem/s.
