You should be able to run a wire off your distributor to power the tach. There should be a terminal there for that, hopefully. To check the gear ratio put a chalk mark on you tire and one on the drive shaft. Roll the truck one full tire rotation. If the drive shaft turns a little less than 5 rotations you have 4.89:1 gear ratio. If a little less than 6 rotations you have 5.89's. Good luck!
