Mig would work ok too. All my brackets are welded with Mig. I must have close to a hundred frames built under my belt. Nothing has busted to date that I know of. Most of the work has been done with Mig . More than once I have had to ground out a mig weld because of porosity.

7018 DC rod was my rod of choice 30 years back. Since the migs have been more available I do not use the Stick much for stuff under 3/8 thick.
