It's my understanding the Military NDT are equivalent to American civilian tires of the same nominal size in terms of rim diameter, bead seat angle (5 degrees) and flange height which are the critical demensions. On a Semi-drop Center Rim (found on the PW and others) that use a tappered bead seat, once the tire is mounted, infated and the tire bead "pops" and seats against the edge of the split lock ring, the ring is locked in place, assuming the ring was installed correctly.
When mounting overside tires, care must be taken as the flange height and bead seat angle may change, which could cause chafing and tire failure. This is in addition to the strain placed on on an oversize tire when it is placed on a rim which is narrower than the one it is designed for.
Care must be taken when considering European made tires. They may not have the 5 degree angle necessary for the American rim.
I'm not an expert on tires.
