distributor not rotating

The distributor on my flat head 265 industrial is not rotating when engine is turned over. I pulled distributor, and the shaft is fine and rotates properly. Motor was running fine last year. When I put it away, it shut down, I thought I had run it out of gas. I've reached the extent of my basic engine knowledge. What might have broken internally? What should I do next?
