I experimented a bit when I was running my WC 56.
In normal trim, on a flat open road, it would run quite happily at 55mph (indicated) wtih no sign of distress - any faster and the factory governor cut in.
A guy I know bought a WC51 in very nice order but wasn't happy with the 55mph top speed, so he took the governor off and ran it up to 70 mph - for about two days. Then it was in the garage to get a new head gasket and he (wisely) decided to refit the governor.
I'd reckon any 3/4 ton in good order would run at 55 all day, but unless yuou have a supply of engines and gaskets I'd leave the governor alone.
