My buddy put a 4-53 Detroit Diesel on his 1972 F-250. Man that thing was an absolute dog, excepting of course the awesome torque that it produced at any RPM. Very loud motor, and its not all exhaust noise. Just a lot of scraping iron in there. I dont know too much about small Cummins engines, but I sure liked that Detroit. If I did a diesel swap, I think I'd look into a 3-35 or 4-53 Detroit. Or possibly a 6V53. Saw one of those once in an old GMC.
