Yep, even if you're really a total Democrat or a total Republican at heart, you have to vote for somebody from the other party often enough that they know they have to keep earning your vote. My father used to say it was best to make sure the president was the opposite party from the congress, no matter what party that was, so they'd keep each other in check.
