speedo's stuck

I got a new(old) speedo for my C3-PW that's in much better shape than the old one (less miles too !!!)but I absolutely can not get the old speedo to even budge from it's place in the dashboard...I've tried tapping lightly from the back side, I've prayed and begged, but it's stuck pretty good and is NOT cooperating.....any ideas on how to remove it without maijor damage ???? thanks
