Unfortunately petroleum based transportation and refining systems are what we currently have. One thing that would lessen our dependency on pertoleum would be a dramatic increase in nuclear power plants to run the refineries. A combination of hydroelectric and nuclear and clean burning coal would make this nation nearly fossil fuel free. Transporting the E85 to market in bio-diesel or P100 powered tanker trucks would also dramatically lower our thirst for fossil fuel. All of these scenarios, with the exception of nuclear plants, could be accomplished within a decade.
