I think it's the low compression part that really lends to an engine that runs despite significant problems. I have an old IHC BD264 that came from the factory in my 1960 B140. It's OHV but low compression. I drove that truck off the truck and into my driveway, then made a few short jaunts around the neighborhood before pulling the head. All of the top rings were broken in it too, and a bit more. The photo is piston number 6, the link is number piston 1.
I do love these tough old trucks that just keep running and running...
