when, as a teenager, I painted a guy's house for a dollar an hour. And repainted it for nothing when a sudden storm washed the fresh paint off. Jeans have gone up 3X, PWs 10-20X, and house painter wages about the same. I think it's called inflation. Beyond that, everybody wants stuff that they remember from their childhood, and now the generation that grew up in the 50s and 60s has the money to buy that stuff. PWs are "in", along with cartoon lunch boxes and sputnik furniture. I've noticed that common pre-war vehicles (Model A's etc) don't seem to be nearly as desireable as they once were. Sure there are museum pieces and hot-rods that are valuable but just an ordinary driveable moderately-restored Model A or Chevy is pretty affordable. I think the reason is that everybody who has nostalgic memories of them either already has one or is dead. It'll be that way with PWs too in 30 years. Maybe people will be collecting Rangers or LUVs by then.
