The original steel strips are drilled for the crossmembers, and also the ends of the bed. Notice that the crossmembers are drilled for each strip?

My bed has been dissassmbled for two years (so far), it's gonna be a puzzle once I get it painted... I think it probably should be assembled onto the chassis in this order: crossmembers, boards,strips,front, sides...
