they are legendary, one of my late uncles was a pilot over Italy in a B17 but didn't like to talk about it much. I never pressed it. I got to get inside one at Boeing filed in Seattle. I will never forget it. I also got to sit in the nose of a B29 on the same day and realized that I would never have wanted to be a bombardier on a B29. Plywood and plexiglass the only thing between you and flack!
