take the alt that vpw sold you to a good local rebuilder. have them do a true one wire conversion and have them set up the alternator to kick in at low rpms. the kit from vpw has a diode in one of the wires that acts like a one way check valve for voltage. with a true one wire its a no brainer and the underhood wiring is simplified. i was also able to maintain the use of my ammeter with the one wire and it reads correctly.
