Hi Guys......
Need some help from the older Forum members..... those who remember when.....
About ten years ago......... when only interested in M-37...... I scouted an old junk yard filled with heavy trucks. Some were old concrete mixers probably dating back to the mid fifties.
The cement drum was powered seperately from the drive line (no hydraulics back then)by Chrysler flat head six.....of unknown c.i. ...of what seemed like a small pickup 3 speed top loader. Between the bellhousing and the 3 speed was a seperate transmission which seemed to have just two speed. The seperate shifter lever was straight forward...neutral ... and straight back.
I had assumed that it was an underdrive/straight drive to slow down the drum rotation when full and speed up when emptey and washing in reverse rotation.
Now this small transmission was approx. 8 inches long and looked like it belonged there. Same 4 bolt pattern from the tranny was repeated. Now the junk yard is gone to the smelters but I am sure some of them things must still be around.
Any of the old timer remember what they were?????
Not to offend anyone I am an oldtimer...... and proud of it but not as knowledgeable as some of you guys out there.
Curious to see if found whether it could be mounted backwards for overdrive.....
Thanks for the memories
Bob C.
