When I got my M37, I flat-towed it about 30 miles using my
67 chevy 1/2-ton with a pintle hook bolted to the back bumper
and a home-made V-shaped "lunette" tow bar clamped to the
M37 with some angle irons and 5/8" bolts. The M37 wouldn't roll
so I removed both drivelines. It still wouldn't roll until I
hooked up a comealong to a nearby steamroller and broke the
stuck brakes loose. At that point it flat-towed okay with the
chevy. I did this between midnight and 3:00 monday morning to
avoid traffic and cops, and I can't say it was a relaxing trip.
It tracked okay if I made wide turns, though by the time I got
home it was starting to pull. It turns out my funky bumper clamp
had just about come off on one side. Anyway after fixing the
truck somewhat and putting the drivelines back together I tried
to tow it up to the state patrol to get it inspected and it
wouldn't track at all. I couldn't get it to go around any
corner; it would just push the rear of my chevy sideways. So
my advice after all that is take out the drivelines if you're
going to flat-tow it and do it when no one else is on the road.
A trailer and a big truck to pull with would have been so much
nicer but I didn't have the money for that kind of thing.
Good luck!
