I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that lighter fluid like you would put in a Zippo cigarette lighter or Aliphatic Naptha should take any sticky residue off and not hurt the paint. Has anyone else heard of this? I know that I have used it in acoustic guitar repair to clean Nitrocelulose Laquer and it doesn't hurt the finish and it will take sticky stuff off. If you don't wipe it completely off at one time as it evaporates it does seem to reactivate the "sticky" property of the glue.
FWIW
