This is a reall classic. They are auto-start-on-demand with a 24 volt cranking coil built into the generator. they were built from 1905 to 1945 IIRC (tho its been a few years).
I have one of these units; mine is a 1500 watt (yes, 1.5 kw) and shows a 1945 manufacture date. They were used on a couple of South Pole expeditions.
My plan was to set this in the bed to power the Christmas lights on the truck for the local 'Festival of Lights' parade. The dangded thing is *heavy* over 500 lbs I recall.
Somebody had a manual for this posted on the internet somewhere; I may have a copy.
