Usually permission in advance, depending on where you go. For the most part, there are over 2,000 miles of roads that can be driven publicly with standard insurance and registration. Some of these roads we maintain to the best of our ability, some we don't. Those that we don't are passable with a power wagon, some would require a winch as long as you are willing to get wet. I usually stay on the better roads so as not to beat the daylights out of a new paint job. These roads usually lead to points of interest such as a nice lake, hill top, or land mark of one sort or another. Send me an e-mail and I can give you better descriptions.
