My personal opinion is that Dodge singlehandedly resurected the personal diesel business in the USA. They were the first with a sucessful turbo diesel in a 1 ton truck, with ferd and later gm, copycating the high output, true diesel technology. The early ferd and gm diesels don't count, they drove folks AWAY from diesel not towards it.
