Silicon is not hydroscopic like DOT 3/4 so it is less prone to boiling and the resulting brake fade. The heat which separates the water in the system of low boiling point fluid is the culprit. DOT 5 does however get just as hot and that heat also creates water by condensation, just to a lessor degree. Since water and DOT 5 don't mix it's the root of the problems and DOT 5 tends to jell when water is present.
