If I remember correctly, all 9.625 carriers use 7/16 studs for mounting to the housing and have the large spline side gears. The small 8.75 carriers mount with 3/8 studs in 40-43 models, 7/16 in 46 up, and use the smaller splined side gears in 1/2 models and large splines in 3/4 ton. I think the 4.30 ratio is small carrier only. It would need 1/16 machined off the gasket surface for use in a large carrier housing. OK in pre 43 housing. WC's had large pumpkins starting sometime in 43 mounted w/7/16 studs. Hope this helps. If anyone has the Zentmeyer manual handy, it has details. Maybe someday I can find mine.
