Hard to find. You're correct in assuming they were copied after the M37. Robi Mukherjee (http://www.g741.org/) has a manual for them. He describes them as "M37 variation produced for the Army by Toyota, known as the FQ15. This truck series also includes a canvas covered ambulance and a hardshell ambulance version."
Most Japanese vehicles were copies of other vehicles. This was done with the full knowledge of the car manufacturers.
