There is a lot of force working between cap and case (bearings) especially when pulling or hauling heavy loads. You can take a chance with one pin, but I would go to a hardware store and buy 1/4 steel bolts (grade 2) with a shank that is at least 1 inch long and smooth surface. 1/4 inch round stock can be used to make new pins, again smooth surface. The pins are not hardened material just smooth soft steel. If everything else appears ok, that is the only thing you need to do. After you drive in new pins, 1/16 inch below the case surface, you need to center punch the side of the pin hole to expand metal outwards into the pin hole to prevent the pins from working out. You'll be good to go!
