Trailer tire balancing??

I am getting my trailer ready for my annual pilgrimage to visit friends and adopted family in Fairfield. When I dropped off my tires at the local tire shop to have them put on new rims I requested that they be balanced. The worker said if I wanted to waste my money he would balance them. His Boss heard him and said "Do what the customer request". Is this a waste of money??? Seems to me the smoother the tires go round the less wear on the trailer suspension there will be.
