CCA is being phased out of residential lumber, replaced with a higher concentrate of copper. Unfortunately, boosting the copper content in lumber makes the new stuff significantly more corrosive -- 5 times more corrosive to common steel, according to American Wood Preservers Association (AWPA) test results.
If you are building a museum piece, use untreated wood, if you want a smoother, quieter ride, do what Dodge did in the later years, replace it with rubber or polyurethane.
