The Dodge DeSoto's had what you call a power assist
steering. It was simple all it had was a power
steering pump on the engine and a cylinder that
had valve on the end wich was in a tie rod end. That
valve was opened or closed by the movment of the
steering linkage. It would be a pretty easy change
over to a power wagon or an M-37. I know there were
other auto mackers that used this type system.
(I think Ford was one of them)
