Paul in NY: Question about electrolytic derusting

Just a shot in the dark that you might know, but does electrolytic derusting have a negative effect on brass?

Specifically, on my winch support arm I have the brass sleave that the drum shaft slips into. I dont want to remove it but I would like to derust my piece. If I hooked it up, would the process hurt the brass? Something tells me in my reading that the process hurts copper, brass and aluminum.

Any idea?
