i have been researching inner axle seals to find a current modern replacement. i wont sleep at night installing a nos leather seal knowing that it is a bear to get to when it leaks.
i have found a few seals that will work dimensionally & one that i think might be ideal. i need some advice from someone here who knows more about tolerances and fit.
it should be noted that ALL modern replacements are not as wide as the orig seal. does that matter? the seal i want to use has an outside diameter of 2.0540 vs 2.0660. the diff is .012 inch which is less than 1/64th of an inch smaller. is that loose?? in addition, the inner diameter is 1.4960 which is .004 inch smaller (tighter) .004 which is 1/256th tighter. i like this seal because it is well constructed, has a dirt lip and the rear spring is not exposed like the 480991. what are your thoughts
thanks,
mannyc
