MU-2 winch drum grease and electrolytic derusting

How much grease should be located inside the winch drum? My drum was loaded with grease inside the axle housing and other than trying to shove a stick in there its near impossible to get out. What would happen if I put it in an electrolytic derusting bath? Would the grease disolve?

And during reassembly, how much grease should be reinjected back into the cavity?
