If it is an older coil it will be marked 'bat' or 'ign' Newr coils are marked '+' or 'ign' The polarity does not matter as a coil is an 'autotransformer' or 'spark transformer' thus the secondary is one sided to the distributor rotor. The only reason coils are marked is for some types that have a filter resistor in the primary circuit and it is best on the voltage input side. ( bat + or ign )
