I frequently find it possible to shift out of 4th without using the clutch.
It's not an issue of it "falling out" of gear, the trans works great.
The question is:
Is it safe for me to be pulling out of gear without first using the clutch?
I most often have to perform this short cut only after making sure the engine and trans are under no load. It's not easily accomplished unless the two are in just the right sync. When they are, the shifter will basically shift into nuetral without much leverage at all. If they are not, the shift is too hard, which obviously requires me to clutch first. I confident that I'm not pulling on it too hard.
I want an opinion from someone who's familiar with the internal operation of the stock trans to validate if this is acceptable practise or not.
I sometimes have a hard time with my back, and too much clutch can sometimes make for a less than pleasant journey.
Thanks.
