cummins 4bt bearings

Have a chance to buy a whole running p30 van with a 4bt for $2000. The mechanic said it broke a turbo 400 flywheel, and when he was installing a new one he noticed excess crank endplay.So they are surplusing it.My question is since the bearings are so much softer than the crank do you think there will be any crank damage? Sould I just be able to replace the bearings? A crank kit cost is $1500 & that would make it cost prohibitive. Any thoughts on this?
