An old man I know told about making those kind of rigs when he was young. They'd take any old truck they got for free, cut out the body so they could wrap some used conveyor belting around the tires, and split the brake system into right and left with an extra pedal and master cylinder so they could skid-steer it. Don't know if they put any bogies on it or not. As I recall this was in the flat-land of Montana, not the mountains of Idaho.
