Backing plate interchange

Is it o.k. to use a front brake backing plate from a WDX on the rear axle of a WC 3/4 Ton? Any problems to watch for? I am using the centered rear and have managed to ruin one of the backing plates. Rust, and flame, long story. Also,I now have first hand experience with removing the rivets holding backing plate to axle. Not fun, but part of the adventure!
