If its an OBDII truck turn your key onoffonoffon and watch the flashs from the check engine light. The PCM traps error codes and keeps them until the battery is pulled and power is killed to the PCM. The light will cycle on and off at start up and only come on when it senses a problem.

Just a bit off odd information....

On my Honda the light will come on and you have to pull the ash tray out of the interior side panel on the drivers side back seat and peak down in there to see the lights and it tells you what is wrong. The check engine light will go off when you shut the car off and not come on again when you start it until the PCM detects a problem in real time.
