All on my 6 volt cables are covered with rubber coating. My '52 PW has been converted to 12 volt so it's not a good example. However, my '50 is still all original and the cables look like rubber coated.
As for supplies, I've always made my own. 6 volts has more amps. than a 12 volt system. That's why over the road trucks used two 6 volt batteries than one 12. Go to an automotive electrical supply company and get the heaviest gauge cable you can 0 or 00 if you can get it. Solder your ends on and you're ready to go.
