{{My recently aquired 79 W150, 318 cu in, has a transmission oil dipstick that reads "Dexron Only" I assume that this is not the proper dipstick for my truck, or any other Chrysler product. }}
Starting with the aluminum case Torqueflite in '62, Chrysler used Dexron transmission fluid. The earlier cast iron torqueflites and the powerflites used Type A fluid but Dexron will work fine in them. It may even help them shift smoother.
You can use Dexron, Dexron II, or Dexron III in your transmission. The only exception to this is if you have a transmission with a lock up torque converter.The late model trucks with this MUST use the proper fluid to avoid transmission shudder. I think Dexron III meets this requirement but am not sure.
