Browsers save copies of web pages that you've recently visited in a temporary location called the "cashe". That way when you hit the "back" arrow button you don't have to wait while it slowly re-loads the whole thing from the internet. When a link refers to a page that's currently in the cache, it's displayed with a different color (brown for Firefox, vs blue for uncached pages). This is why the link text changes color after you view a post -- because what you just viewed is now in the cache. As the cache gets full, the browser deletes the older cached pages to make room for more recent ones. Sometimes after you've looked at a lot of large pages (pictures, for example), it will clear out the old previously-viewed forum posts. Does that make sense?
