My Father was also at that battle, but in a UH1B helicopter. He also did not talk about any thing he did while in service.....unless it was funny. He was a grunt in the 86 Blackhawks during WWII, fought in the Korean war (he did say to me once that it was the worst) and in Viet Nam. My Mom got me the book "We were soldiers" and in the book she high lighted the names of soldiers who would stop by our house (this was in the early 60s, when the unit was the 11th Air Assault) On my Dad's uniform he still had the first air assault wings that were never authorized by the Army, but talking to Vets they were still worn by the few who started the air assault for the Army (today the wings look like jump wings with a UH1 helicopter in the middle).
