In 1972, we were still using M37's in Berlin. I asked the Motor Pool Sgt, why haven't you guys switched over to the Goats yet? He took me around the corner and showed me the 12 Goats in the yard and explained how they were taking up work bay space, never ran longer than three days, easily rolled and had a bad habit of sinking in the rivers, also he could never get parts. His solution was to go out into the parts yard and retrive the "surplused" Dodges sitting there and park the Gama's. Experiment over. The Gama was also supposed to be used for our mortar platoons but they converted to M113A1's. The Army tried M880's, gm blazers, all fell way short of the 3/4 ton Dodge. The M37 was used until the Humvees and the FMTV replaced it.
