I would have a hard time making a case for the liberty unless it had a diesel in it. I would think that it would do better in crash/safety area, but repairs are expensive. I don't think the 3.9l holds any ground whatsoever to the 4.0 250k mile workhorse of the Cherokee. IFS make lifts expensive and wears front ends quickly. I think they feel top heavy when driving them, and they wander quite a but. Steering is quick and precise (but somewhat unforgiving for over-correction). Cherokees had parts interchangability back to 1993 as far as motor and driveline, retain good value, are easily lifted and modified, and do well all around. I've had 5 of them and am driving one now as my DD. Looked at a liberty, but only would consider a CRD. Just my $.02.
