I've had three dogs in my adult life. The first was a small dog who was behind me one minute on a hike, then was gone. I seached the area for days and never found her. A preditor probably got her, but I'll never know for sure.
The second flushed a cat out of the bushes in front of our house and was struck by a passing car as she gave chase. I was standing right there and didn't even have time to yell a command. She did not die right away... it was very tramatic.
Taffy's passing was peacefull. She had her family around her and she seemed relieved. I found this experiance almost comforting. It was hard to make that decicion, but I knew it was the right thing to do.
I hope you have many more years before you need go through it again, but I think this is the best way for them to go.
Take care,
Chris
