Perkins was bought twice, once to Massey-Ferguson, when Mr. Perkins retired, and then to CAT in the '90's. Along the way Perkins bought Rolls Royce Diesel and Dorman Diesel.
Today Perkins primarily builds Marine and stationary industrial/agriculture diesel motors, so they are a good fit for CAT. The vehicle engines at Perkins have been out of production for many, many years and as Aaron noted, parts are scarce.
